Paulo Cesar Gaglianone

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paulo Cesar Gaglianone last September 22th, 2021. Paulo Cesar was among the founders of the Latin American Association of Organic Geochemistry in 1988, and acted as our first president. Paulo Cesar was born in Rio de Janeiro, where he graduated in geology on 1968, followed by a master degree by the same university, in 1971. On 1993 he would complete his doctorate. His endeavours include an experience on oil exploitation followed by a brilliant carreer as a geochemist in Petrobras, where he acted as manager as of 1984. There, he coordenated important projects regarding geochemical evaluation of sedimentary basins, leading to new courses of Brazilian oil exploitation.

His commitment to the communion of the scientific society was remarkable. “Paulo Cesar was a great man who would always be open for discussion and never disregard a person based of their knowledge. In my early days as an organic geochemist one could always find on him someone to be inspired by”, says Debora Azevedo, acting president of ALAGO. He leaves a legacy of generosity and enthusiasm, and his achievements on organic geochemistry will undoubtfully help new generations to further explore the field. We express our deep condolences for his loved ones in this time of need. He will be dearly missed.
